From the need to improve the production and use of packaging materials and packaging, in 1971 Laboratory for Packaging and packaging was founded in Novi Sad. Prof. dr Milivoje Curaković was the founder and first LABORATORY Director. Today, LABORATORY team is consisted of: prof. dr Vera Lazic LABORATORY - Director, dr Senka Popović - Quality Manager, dr Nevena Hromiš and dr Danijela Šuput - coordinators and Sava Popov - technician. In 1996, the LABORATORY was first accredited and designated as YUAL 017 (Decision on accreditation).

Since 1996, the LABORATORY regularly pass checking and re-accreditations according to system JUS ISO 17025: 2001 and ISO 17025: 2006, by JUAT or ATS, which is evidenced by the current Accreditation Certificate, accreditation number 01-067 from 2017.

LABORATORY ACTIVITIES

As the first and only laboratory for packaging and packing in the Balkans, the LABORATORY has a long successful cooperation with industry through knowledge transfer and examination of the various packaging materials and packaging. The LABORATORY cooperates with manufacturers of packaging materials and packaging, as well as their customers – food industry, chemical and pharmaceutical industry and the animal feed industry, with various governmental Inspections, scientific and government institutions. It also checks packaging materials and packaging characteristics for the purposes of prize assessment.

The LABORATORY organizes trainings for personnel from the industry, as well as seminars on packaging materials, packaging and packaging. It provides technical, professional and engineering support to industry of packaging materials and packaging, as well as their users. In addition, numerous scientific papers, presented at national and international conferences, congresses and published in journals and monographs, point to the reputation of the staff who works on specific objectives of development, characterization and application of different packaging materials and packaging.

SCOPE OF THE TESTING

The LABORATORY performs visual, sensory, dimensional, physical, chemical, mechanical and structural tests of packaging materials and packaging, made of metal, glass, paper/cardboard, plastics, multilayer and combined materials, as well as testing of plastic bags biodegradability.

The LABORATORY scope of Accreditation is available here, as well as on the website of the Accreditation Body of Serbia (www.ats.rs).
Since 2014, the LABORATORY is registered in Register of the designated CAB-s (I 028, 119-01-00070/1/2012-02), as authorized body for conformity assessment for analysis of biodegradability (www.tehnis.privreda.gov.rs).

The LABORATORY is equipped with appropriate specified equipment for testing and development of packaging materials and packaging, which is regularly maintained and calibrated in accordance with the requirements of Standard SRPS ISO/IEC 17025.
