DEMATEN Workshops

“Processing, Characterisation, Properties and Applications of Nanostructured Ceramics and Nanocomposites”

Second Workshop

“Structural and Functional Characterisation of Complex Materials”

June 3-5, 2010, Chalkidiki, Greece

Welcome

We are pleased to invite you to the DEMATEN workshop which will take place from 3 to 5 June at the charming area of Chalkidiki Greece. This will be the second of a series of workshops on "Processing, Characterisation, Properties and Applications of Nanostructured Ceramics and Nanocomposites" organized annually within the framework of FP7 Project "DEMATEN". The focus of this year’s workshop will be “Structural and Functional Characterisation of Complex Materials”.  The workshop is open to all interested scientists and there will be no registration fee.

Scope

The purpose of this workshop is to gather together a group of international scientists interested in modern characterisation techniques of complex materials, to discuss the invaluable importance of these techniques in understanding the materials, as well as the recent developments and cutting edge challenges of these techniques. We intent to concentrate on selected materials and techniques so as to provide a very specific focus to our discussions. Among the complex materials that will be discussed at the workshop will be nanostructured ceramics and nanocomposites, as well as selected bulk organic or inorganic materials which exhibit fascinating properties revealed by their characterisation at nano-, micro- scales. Among the techniques that will be presented at the workshop will be Neutron and Synchrotron X-ray scattering, Atomic and Magnetic Force Microscopy and Electron Microscopy as applied in the study of complex multi-component, nanostructured and disordered materials. Experiments at High Magnetic Fields play an increasingly important role in the unraveling of novel states and exotic properties of complex materials and therefore will also be discussed at the workshop. The significant role of Modeling will also be highlighted, as it is an indispensable tool to predict the functional and structural properties probed experimentally by the above and other techniques.

The objective of the workshop is not only to provide a forum of presentation and discussion of new results but also to introduce the above techniques and materials to young scientists. There will be oral and poster presentations.
